James "Jim" Herdt

James "Jim" Herdt, Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy (Retired), is the CEO of Herdt Consulting, Inc.  Jim transitioned from active duty in April 2002 with 35 years of active naval service.  He served the last four years of his active service as the most senior enlisted member of the United States Navy.  As such, his responsibilities included leading program and policy development for an enlisted force of over 400,000 personnel.  Additionally, he served as a personal advisor to the Chief of Naval Operations, Secretary of the Navy, Secretary of Defense an

Tom Hefty
President (FLTCM, USN, Ret.)

Tom Hefty, Fleet Master Chief (Retired) served in the U.S. Navy for more than 26 years including 8 years of flag-level executive service.  Tom held various positions of command leadership to include tours as Chief of the Boat, Command Master Chief and Fleet Master Chief for CINCLANFLT. After retiring in June 2002 Tom joined Herdt, where he now serves as President.  Tom also provides consulting support to the Department of the Navy Chief Information Officer (DON CIO)

Pete Thielen
Senior Vice President (CMDCM, USN, Ret.)

Pete Thielen is Herdt’s Senior Vice President responsible for Strategy and Business Development. After honorably serving the U.S. Navy for 26 years at submarine and surface commands, Pete served his final tour as CINCLANTFLT Staff Command Master Chief. In 2000, Pete entered the Public Sector Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) market where he served as a Logistics, Project Systems and Financial Accounting Specialist for the U.S. Navy ERP Program.

Eric Miller
Vice President

Eric Miller, Vice President is responsible for day-to-day company operations and business administration.  Eric is a U.S. Navy veteran with more than17 years of business experience in the public and private sectors.  After his transition from theNavy, he spent five years as a Project Director and contract manager before joining Herdt. Eric possesses Master’s Degree in IT from Troy University.

Dave Shanahan
Vice President (CAPT, SC, USN, Ret.)

Dave Shanahan recently joined Herdt Consulting after more than eleven years with PricewaterhouseCoopers Consulting (PWCC) and IBM Global Business Services.  A Partner in the Public Sector Supply Chain Practice, he was responsible for providing Supply Chain services in the areas of Logistics, PLM, Supply Chain Planning, Procurement, and Supply Chain Operations.  Also while at IBM, Dave led IBM’s Public Sector DoD ERP Practice.

Rick D. West
Vice President (MCPON, USN, Ret.)
Rick West, Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy (Retired) served in the U.S. Navy for more than 32 years including 10 years of flag-level executive service. His command assignments included Chief of the Boat on USS Portsmouth (SSN 707), Command Master Chief of Submarine Squadron Eleven, COMSUBPAC Force Master Chief, Command Master Chief USS Preble (DDG 88), and Fleet Master Chief for both the Pacific and U.S. Fleet Forces Command. He served the last four years of his active service as the most senior enlisted member of the United States Navy.
J.W. “Bill” Goodwin
Senior Strategic Consultant (RADM, USN, Ret.)

Bill retired from the U.S. Navy as a Rear Admiral after 35 years of service. He was a Naval Aviator with numerous commands including Strike Fighter Squadron 94, USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76), Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group and Commander, Naval Air Force Atlantic. Prior to his retirement, Bill served as Assistant Chief of Naval Operations, Next Generation Enterprise Network System Program Office in Washington, DC. This network will eventually replace the current Navy and Marine Corps Intranet (NMCI).

Edward “Sonny” Masso
Senior Strategic Consultant (RADM, USN, Ret.)
Sonny retired from the U.S. Navy as a Rear Admiral after 32 years of service. His service spanned both the active and reserve components of the Navy. He was a Surface Warfare Officer with eight commands in ranks from Lieutenant Commander to Captain. Flag assignments included Deputy Commander, Naval Surface Force US Atlantic Fleet, Vice Commander Naval Surface Forces Command; Assistant Deputy Chief of Naval Operations (Manpower, Personnel, Training and Education) (OPNAV N1B); Commander Navy Personnel Command/Deputy Chief of Naval Personnel.
Asim Aziz
Executive Director – Technology

Asim Aziz drives the key elements of Herdt's overall technical strategy and manages strategic technical projects for our customers.  As Technology Lead, Asim supervises Research & Development efforts that bring together partner technologies to create solutions to solve complex customer challenges.  For the past 23 years, Asim has provided solutions to private and public sector ERP customers by designing, integrating and tuning their ERP solutions.  He is a subject matter expert on broad r

Tom Rybak
Executive Director – Business Transformation, ERP Integration and Deployment

Tom Rybak has over 32 years of leadership and hands-on experience implementing process automation in the public and private Sectors. Over the past 16 years, Tom has focused on conceptualizing, evaluating, creating business cases and implementing Enterprise Resource Planning programs within the public and private sectors. He is a Subject Matter Expert in the automation of Supply Chain, Logistics and Financial Management processes using his Business Process Reengineering (BPR) expertise.

Mike McCalip
Executive Director – Human Capital Management (HCM)

Mike McCalip (FLTCM, USN, Ret.)leads the Leadership and Human Capital Management practice at Herdt. Mike is a respected professional with a history of leading and influencing large workforces, complex operations and multibillion-dollar budgets to drive productivity and measurable success. Mike joins Herdt after serving the U.S. Navy for over 31 years. His last three years of Naval service was as the Fleet Master Chief for the Chief of Naval Personnel and Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Manpower, Personnel, Training and Education (MPT&E)/Navy Total Force (NTF).

Don Barrett
Executive Director, PMP – Organizational Change Management (OCM)

Don Barrett leads the Organizational Change Management practice at Herdt. He brings over 25 years of leadership experience from the Federal Civil Service and private sectors. Don served in Senior Enlisted leadership positions for 20 years in the U.S. Navy spanning three Mediterranean deployments, two Western Pacific deployments and Arabian Gulf operations. Don is a recognized expert in human performance improvement and process improvement, team building, change management, organizational development, mentorship and human resources development.

Jim Herdt II
Business Manager

Jim Herdt manages business operations and is the Facility Security Officer for Herdt Consulting, Inc.  Jim spent 17 years with Sears in both corporate and field level assignments.  During that time, Jim managed logistics and inventory control across multiple lines of merchandise for 700 retail outlets, lead marketing systems development initiatives, served as District Manager, and Store General Manager.  After Sears, Jim worked for the Navy Exchange as General Manager in Patuxent River, MD.
